The Magic of Magnetism – 12 March 2009 – Dinnington

A free public lecture for young people and families during National Science and Engineering Week.

The lecture traces some of the history of the discoveries about magnetism, from the days of the Ancient Chinese to modern applications. Its use for navigation, the earth’s magnetism, the discovery of electro-magnetism and the discoveries of induction by Michael Faraday are all presented with many demonstrations requiring audience participation!

The Middleton in Dinnington is hosting this event on 12 March, with two presentations for schools during the day and a family event in the evening.

The event is being organised by The IET and Dinnington Area Regeneration Trust to provide inspirational opportunities for young people in our area. Further details are available on the British Science Association website events calendar – search for ‘Magic of Magnetism’ and on the IET South Yorkshire events calendar.
