Frankie Dettori to unveil St Leger Memorial in Firbeck
We’ve had a busy few days at Throapham with many of our guests attending the St Leger Festival taking place at nearby Doncaster Racecourse this week. Over breakfast I’ve been telling some of the local history associated with the oldest of Britain’s five classic horse-races and it now seems that Frankie Dettori will be in nearby Firbeck on Saturday morning ahead of this year’s race to unveil a plaque to commemorate Anthony St Leger’s connections with our area.
A more detailed article about this is in the Rotherham Advertiser.

Delighted to see the notice about the unveiling of Firbeck’s (two) blue plaques. I am the Treasurer of the Friends of Firbeck Hall who organised the event. As well as trying to save Firbeck Hall we are researching the history of Park Hill and Firbeck Hall (hence the first two blue plaques). We issue a Newsletter three times a year with updates and local historical items. Would you like to join – always something of interest! Only £1 joining fee and no annual subscription as we need ‘numbers’ rather than money. Let me know if you are interested, there is so much that would facinate your guests.
With best wishes,
Valerie Oxley
