Events at Sheffield Arena

There are some fabulous acts appearing at the Sheffield Arena in the forthcoming months. The Britain’s Got Talent Live Tour 2010 gets under way on 29 June, with the Once in a Lifetime Tour 2010 the following evening 30 June starring the legendary Bay City Rollers, David Essex, Leo Sayer and The Osmonds.

Additional dates have been added to the sensational Rod Stewart tour and he will be appearing at the Sheffield Arena on 20 July.

Michael Flatley has not performed the ‘Lord of the Dance‘ since 1998 but he reprises his role as ‘Lord of the Dance’ at Sheffield on Saturday 30 October.

In November Paramore, Disney on Ice, A-Ha and Paul Weller take to the stage as do Simply Red, JLS and Peter Andre in December.

Racing at Doncaster Racecourse begins on Saturday 17 April with the Doncaster Mile.  There are many meetings throughout the year including the St Ledger Festival on Wednesday 8th September. Dinnington Brass Band – a Band for Britain

Congratulations to members of the Dinnington Colliery Brass Band for their recent appearance in the BBC’s programme ‘A Band for Britain’.  The Band has produced a CD which is in the top 40 classical album charts and have made several appearances on various television shows such as the Alan Titchmarsh Show where they met up once more with Sue Perkins and the Breakfast show where they were interviewed by Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams. They have secured a £1m deal with a record company and hope to improve rehearsal facilities and train more people. Ann and Robert from Throapham House bed and breakfast near Dinnington wish them every success for the future.

Chatsworth House opens on Sunday 14 March

After major restoration, the house and gardens open on Sunday 14 March with a new visitor route through the house.  There is a new gallery for displaying art and new displays celebrating the Duchess Georgiana and an exhibition celebrating the 90th birthday of Deborah Devonshire, the present Dowager Duchess. Our regular supplier of bacon, pork sausage and black pudding have struck gold again – 5 times!!  One of their gold awards was achieved for their superb quality plain pork sausage which you can taste when you have your breakfast at Throapham House. The awards were achieved at the recent BPEX North West Roadshow and our congratulations are sent to them. Well done!

Rother Valley Triathlon Festival near Sheffield and Rotherham 12 and13 June 2010

Athletes from around the country are expected to attend the festival and in particular to enter the Sprint race which has been selected as a qualifying event for both the 2010 World and 2011 European Sprint Triathlon Championships.  The event will attract people from all round the country as well as the local community and with many activities taking place in the park throughout the festival this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a sporting weekend away. Hodsock Snowdrops 30 January 2010 to 28 February 2010

Hodsock Priory near Blyth, north Nottinghamshire, will open its grounds on 30 January 2010 so members of the public can enjoy the spectacular display of millions of snowdrops. The best displays depend on the weather and it is advisable to telephone in advance (01909 591 204) to check conditions. There are lots of other plants to see such as aconites, cyclamen, hellebores, irises and much more. Throapham House is situated approximately 7 miles from the Priory and is ideally placed for guests to visit many other attractions nearby.
