Chatsworth House is the home of the Duke of Devonshire and is located just outside Bakewell in the Peak District National Park.
One of England’s finest stately homes it makes a great day out during your stay and is around 40 minutes drive from Throapham House.

Roche Abbey is within walking distance of Throapham House. Taking about an hour to reach on foot it forms part of an enjoyable walk of some 8 miles which also takes in the nearby villages of Laughton en le Morthen, Slade Hooton and Brookhouse.

Hardwick Hall (National Trust) is a fine Elizabethan property set in beautifully landscaped gardens about half an hour drive from Throapham House. Also explore the ruins of Hardwick Old Hall (English Heritage) just to the side which was the former home of Bess of Hardwick.

The village of Laughton en le Morthen is a short walk from Throapham House. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the spire of All Saints Church, which dates from Saxon times. The village and church are both worth a visit if you have the time.


National Trust Events Nearby

An Elizabethan weekend takes place on September 24th and 25th at Hardwick Hall giving an insight into the Tudor period. Hardwick Hall is approximately 15 miles away from us.
