Yorkshire has a proud history in horse racing and the oldest of classics, the St Leger Stakes, is now run at Doncaster in September each year. The race has its origins in the nearby villages of Laughton en le Morthen and Firbeck where British Army Officer Anthony St Leger bred and raced horses.
Local racecourses include…
- Doncaster Race Course
- Beverley Race Course
- York Race Course
- Nottingham Race Course
- Market Rasen Race Course
Eventing and other equestrian pursuits
The local area features strongly in other equestrian pursuits too with Osberton International Horse Trials taking place nearby each September and of course not forgetting South Yorkshire’s proud connection with international showjumping through the Massarella Catering Group based at nearby Brookhouse.
